Demag Cranes supplies 56 rope hoists to the Chinese aluminium industry

Düsseldorf,   28. March 2011

  • Demand for industrial cranes and components in China on the increase
  • Components business making successful progress

Demag Cranes has received an order to supply 56 rope hoists. The rope hoists, with load capacities of between 5 and 40 tonnes, are to be used to equip crane installations in an aluminium smelting & rolling mill in the east Chinese province of Henan which is currently being built by Wanji Aluminium Co., Ltd.

Thomas H. Hagen, Member of the Management Board of Demag Cranes AG and COO, explains: “As a result of strong industrial growth in China, there is a steadily increasing need for industrial cranes and crane components. Our products have proved their worth over many years, in particular in the field of aluminium production. This strengthens our competitive edge in the strategically important Chinese market and gives a boost to our successful component business.”

Additional information

High handling rates and optimum use of available space
All these Demag rope hoists are intended for use in conjunction with complete crane installations with which a Chinese OEM partner of Demag Cranes will be equipping the new aluminium facility. As part of our global manufacturing network, 36 of these high load capacity rope hoists will be manufactured at the Demag Cranes facility in Wetter, Germany, while the remaining 20 will come from the company’s Chinese production facility.

To provide the required handling rates, the new installations will have high hoist and cross-travel speeds. In addition, these rope hoists feature particularly effective antisway systems to enable the loads to be positioned with a high degree of accuracy. Demag Cranes configures and builds crane installations and hoists exactly in line with the customer’s requirements, which makes a large contribution to smoothly interfaced, efficient operations. Thanks to their ideal approach dimensions, the rope hoists of the Demag DR series fulfil the requirement for solutions that allow the floor space in the customer’s factory to be utilised to the full, which enables the crane installations to work to peak efficiency levels.

Long-term sales partnership with Henan Dexu
This order for rope hoists is further evidence of the successful sales partnership with the Chinese trade partner Henan Dexu Co. Ltd. and underlines the fact that it is not only crane business that is bearing fruit in the Chinese market, but also the systematic expansion of the company’s components business. According to Junzhou, Xie, General Manager at Henan Dexu Co. Ltd., customers like Wanji Aluminium appreciate not merely the quality and dependability of the products, but also the excellent service provided by this manufacturer.

DR hoists fitted with sensors for continuous monitoring as standard
To meet the requirement for increased operating safety and sustainable reductions in operating costs, Demag Cranes fits sensors to its DR series rope hoists. These enable key operating functions such as rotary speed and brake release to be continuously monitored. A further advantage of this insight into machine utilisation is that the necessary maintenance and repair work can be scheduled accurately in good time so that downtimes are kept to a minimum. According to information supplied by Henan Dexu, it was both the long service life (FEM categorisation) and these safety features that were decisive in placing the order. In addition, the sturdy engineering of the rope hoists ensures the high levels of availability required in the tough environment found in such a smelting & rolling mill. Demag Cranes is still the only company in the world to provide electronic controllers for rope hoists, which is further proof of the company’s technology leadership position.
